I need to make something very clear…

Understanding something is not the same as holding yourself accountable for it.

You may understand why your relationship ended…
Why you didn’t get the bonus, promotion or job…
Why you’re stuck where you are…
What created or caused a problem…

But, one more time…

Understanding is NOT accountability!

In fact, more often than not…
We hide behind understanding.

Telling ourselves or someone else…
“Yes. I get it.”
“I understand.”

But instead of taking full responsibility, we allow this expression of so called understanding to deny it.

Usually signaled by one little, dangerous word (said to others or silently to ourselves) –

But…

“I know. But…”
“I understand. But…”

How can you tell if you’re falling into this trap?
Shirking responsibility by verbal appeal or appease?

Action.

True accountability…

True understanding is always followed by action –
Positive, purposeful, thoughtful action.

And, if or when none is taken…

Then, whatever you’re telling yourself is a lie.
Maybe not a full blown, intention lie. Still…

A lie nonetheless.

And, a price will ultimately have to be paid. Because…

Nothing erodes self esteem, integrity & mental, physical, emotional & spiritual well being more than being deceitful –

Even if it’s just unconsciously to ourselves.
